Brewery Membership

IBA Membership is open to brewers in planning and Australian independent brewers.

Independent brewer

The Independent Brewers Association Constitution defines an Independent Brewer as any brewer based in Australia:

  • which has aggregate beer sales <40M litres per calendar year;
  • in which a brewer with aggregate beer sales of 40M+ litres per calendar year does not own more than a 20 per cent share; or
  • which does not itself hold more than a 20 per cent share in a brewery with aggregate beer sales of 40M+ litres per calendar year.

Independent Brewers are entitled to full membership, which includes all the IBA's membership benefits.

Brewery in planning

Brewery in planning (BIP) means a person who is in the development stages of becoming an Independent Brewer. Brewers in planning receive some of the IBA's membership benefits. Full membership benefits become available once a brewery in planning receives its excise licence. If you've received your excise licence and would like to upgrade your membership, please contact us today.

Member benefits

The IBA has a clear mission: quality independent beer everywhere.

We’re here to educate and influence for the benefit of Australian independent brewers. In our events, programs and campaigns, we seek to advocate, lift awareness, ensure quality and drive member value.

Advocacy

Help steer the future of Australia’s independent brewing industry and have your say. Driven by our members, we form strategies to address issues that affect you and your business.

Your independence, certified

Consumers seek the Seal, and one in every ten dollars spent on beer in Australia is spent on independent beer. The Independence Seal promotes transparency and helps you differentiate yourself in the market. The Independence Seal is available to full members.

Raising the profile of independent beer

Our previous activities included:

  • Lobbying the Federal government to increase the alcohol excise refund scheme cap from $30,000 to $100,000
  • Lobbying the New South Wales government to agree to support independent brewers and to implement a NSW Independent Beer Strategy
  • Working alongside the Queensland government to form the QLD Craft Beer Strategy
  • Consulting with Food Standards Australia and New Zealand on pregnancy labelling
  • Prompting the ACCC to investigate tap contracts between venues and multinational brewers

Have your say

IBA Membership gives you the opportunity to participate in the conversation. We work for you and on your behalf, and our collective voice is stronger than ever. Full members have the opportunity to participate in our Annual General Meeting, eligibility to vote for and run for a seat on the Board of Directors and be invited to sub-committees and state summits.

Marketing and Communications

Keep up to speed with what’s happening in the industry. As a member, you will receive our newsletter with regular email updates and industry-specific news about things that are important to you and your business, including excise, safety legislation and upcoming events and workshops in your area.

Full members will be included in our Members Listing, which is searchable by state and tourism region.
